Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: A Map to New India

As India celebrates ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav’, here are some schemes/campaigns that initiated the journey of New India on independence day throughout the years:

It’s been 75 years since India became an independent country, free from colonial rule the country was still enslaved by poverty, corruption, and illiteracy. These deep-rooted ill practices in the Indian system, kept India’s development shackled for decades. That loosened up a bit after the Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalization model was implemented during the 90s.

With the change in governance, the past few years have been reformative in the Indian system. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has set the trend of announcing reformative schemes on the day India got independence which pave the way for a ‘New India’. Schemes like Ujwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, and many more have changed the lives of many.

As India celebrates ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav’, here are some schemes/campaigns that initiated the journey of New India on independence day throughout the years:

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

With a vision of financial literacy, PM Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana on 15th August 2014. Financial literacy was one of the crucial aspects of the country’s economic development, as most of the rural population didn’t have access to or knowledge of basic banking facilities.

Under this scheme, basic facilities like access to a zero balance savings account, RuPay Debit Card, Overdraft facility, Insurance cover up to 1 Lakh rupees, and much more were provided to the beneficiaries. As one of the most successful schemes of this government, PMJDY has connected over 80% of the Indian population to financial institutions.

With a motto of ‘Na Gandgi Karenge, Na Karne Denge’, Swach Bharat Abhiyan has been quite successful in its first phase. Every year cities across the country are awarded the title of ‘Swachh Cities’ in which Indore, MP, has been the cleanest city consistently.

Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana

The green revolution may have revolutionized the agricultural produce in India but the overuse of fertilizers has left Indian soil unfertile. The droughts and unfertile land have repeatedly led farmers towards debt and suicide. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana is committed to accord high priority to water conservation and its management. PMKSY envisions extending the coverage of irrigation under ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ and improving the water use efficiency. To date, 20.3 Lakh hectares of land have been covered in different forms of irrigation under the PMKSY scheme.

Boasting about IRCTC e-ticket booking speed and online IT refunds, PM assured the country that every process had been simplified and easy to comply with.

Later a bill was passed in the parliament criminalizing the religious practice.

A vision that projects India as a five trillion dollar economy by the year 2025. With the current economic structure and changing dynamics, the goal can be achieved by diversifying the financial structure into three factors. First is one trillion dollars from agriculture and allied activities, three trillion dollars from services, and one trillion dollars from manufacturing. Till the first quarter of FY 2022, India is already a 3.33 trillion dollar economy.

Atmanirbhar Bharat

With the ongoing global crisis between Russia-Ukraine and even USA-China, the importance of being self-reliant as a country gets more clear. Launched in the middle of a pandemic, Atmanirbhar Bharat is a mission to make India self-reliant and boost the Make In India initiative. While the world was struggling through the pandemic, India started manufacturing and exporting ventilators and PPE kits to the countries in need. Amidst the pandemic, PM Modi addressed the nation on Independence day expressing his concerns about India’s reliance on imports. He encouraged Indians to go ‘Vocal for Local’ and focus on manufacturing in India.

National Digital Health Mission

With the country in lockdown, the gap between the patients and medical practitioners grew a lot. To overcome this problem, PM Modi launched the National Digital Health Mission on the 74th Independence Day. The path of being a ‘Vishwaguru’ goes through the lanes of self-reliance, better lifestyle, world-class infrastructure, healthcare, and skilled labor among others. As India celebrates ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav’, relentless and dedicated work can lead India to the heights every freedom fighter fought for.
