As per the Kunduz Provincial Police Headquarters press office, “the operation was conducted in the PD2 area of Kunduz city, where ISIS members were hiding in a rented house. The encounter took place for nearly an hour in which five ISIS fighters were killed.”
“This morning based on an intelligence input, security forces conducted an operation and targeted an armed group of Daesh, who wanted to disturb the security of the city,” read the statement of Kunduz police.
Hafiz Obaidullah Abadi, the spokesman of Kunduz Police, said the militants belonged to Daesh and were hiding after taking on rent a house in the city. Based on credible intelligence, security forces carried out the operation.
The Islamic State is the prime enemy of the Taliban and has been quite active in Afghanistan for several months. It has been involved in several terror strikes across Afghanistan particularly targeting minority communities.
The international organization as well as several countries have repeatedly pressurized the Taliban to take strict actions against global jihadi groups present on Afghan soil.
This has brought the Taliban under immense pressure and it is speculated that today’s operation against the Islamic State fighters may be a result of it.
