PM Narendra Modi-led BJP government is often criticised for being anti-LGBT by the woke community despite the NDA Government undertaking series of steps for their benefit. But of late transgenders have now started realizing the efforts of Modi government for their betterment.

Laxmi Narayana Tripathi, a well-known transgender rights activist recently praised the Central government for various steps undertaken for improving the lives of Transgender community.

Laxmi Narayan Tripathi Praises Modi Govt

The Transgender activist Laxmi Narayana Tripathi said that the govt and private sectors are now enforcing Transgender Act. The activist was speaking at the ASSOCHAM’s Diversity & Inclusion Conclave on Tuesday (6 September, 2022).

The transgender activist said, “With transgender act being enforced by the govt & by pvt. sectors, we have made a position for ourselves as a community,” the ASSOCHAM Twitter handle posted.

The tweet further read, “We must realise that inclusion cannot be tokenistic”.

The ‘tokenistic inclusion’ is probably a veiled attack on the so-called ‘woke community’ which has so far managed nothing except mentioning their pronouns on Twitter profiles.

Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, the transgender saint and activist is the Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhara.

Kinnar Akhara, which was founded in 2015, is a sect comprising saints from the transgender community.

Since coming to power in 2014, the Modi government has undertaken several steps for betterment of the transgender community.

National Portal For Transgender Persons

A national portal was launched on November 25, 2020 for transgender persons to facilitate issuing of Identification cards and certificates.

National Portal for Transgender Persons

The online portal has been a great help for the marginalised community as now they can access the service without any physical interface.

According to the data in National Portal for Transgender Persons, 10,644 transgenders have submitted their applications for certificates. As many as 8,342 certificates while 8,357 ID cards have already been issued as per the latest records.

SMILE

The Modi government on this year February announced the scheme “SMILE” – Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise. It aims at rehabilitation of the transgender community and pulling them out of begging.

A total of ₹365 crore has been allocated in the scheme’s implementation from 2021-2022 to 2025-2026, to give the Trans community identity, medical services, career prospects, education, and a house.

‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ is the key as the Modi government has reached out to every marginalised and oppressed community of the society and ensuring their all-around development.
