In a response to the statement made by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the UN General Assembly, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) On 24th September 2022, issued a statement terming the allegations made by Pak PM as baseless.

Shehbaz Sharif during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly claimed that several terrorist groups, including the TTP, pose a significant threat to Pakistan and should be dealt with comprehensively.

As per the Dawn, a reputed daily of Pakistan,  the Pakistan PM said that “the threat posed by the major terrorist groups operating from Afghanistan, especially ISIL-K and TTP as well as Al-Qaida, ETIM, and IMU need to be dealt with comprehensively and with the support and cooperation of the Interim Afghan authorities.”

Pakistan Taliban Spokesperson Mohammad Khurasani issued a strong response to the statement of the Pak PM saying that the “Pakistani army and its intelligence agencies are the real terrorists.”

He further accused Pakistan of creating dozens of armed groups & openly harboring them in Pakistan and said that “Pakistan never wants peace & stability in the region.”

The TTP termed the Pak PM as a slave and said that the government and political leadership of Pakistan have no status and are slaves of the Pak Army.  Pak government works on the directives of the establishment, which is the Pak Army.

Khurasani denied Sharif’s allegation that TTP operates from Afghan soil.

“Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has repeatedly explained that we do not use Afghan soil to continue our holy jihad, we operate from our own land and our war is currently in guerilla form,” said the TTP spokesperson.

The TTP has always claimed itself to be a resistance movement against the oppression of the Pakistan State. They always allege Pakistan of illegally occupying Pashtun land and committing atrocities against the Pashtun community.

The TTP accused Pakistan of illegally occupying their land and further said that   “we are fighting for our freedom and defense, Pakistani forces have illegally occupied our land. We did not get our freedom as a result of the partition of India, we have always maintained our freedom due to our sacrifices, our Mashrans (elders) acceded to Pakistan as a result of a treaty, but the Pakistani army has repeatedly violated it and has forcibly occupied our land for many years.”

The Pakistani Taliban has always justified its act of taking up arms against the Pakistan state in the name of ‘Jihad’. “It is our right to get freedom and to live our life according to our religion and culture. Taking up arms for this is not terrorism but holy jihad,” said the TTP.

The Pakistan Taliban has been operating mostly in the tribal belt of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan with an aim to implement sharia-based law in Pakistan. The dreaded terrorist organization has so far killed many security personnel of Pakistan.

The TTP has operational bases in Afghanistan, from where they launch attacks on Pakistan security forces. The Afghan Taliban had been reluctant in taking action against the TTP as it had supported the Taliban in its war against US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has become a menace to Pakistan’s security forces. Both parties are currently under negotiation and are holding peace talks.

But the stated aim of TTP is to implement the Taliban-style sharia system in Pakistan which the latter would never agree to, making the ongoing peace talks meaningless.
