The Pakistani Army for the first time accepted the body of a slain militant, who originally was from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This when Kashmir saw another round of violence yesterday (5th Sept, 2022) in the form of clash between rival terror groups.

While on other hand, centre has recently announced various development projects for Jammu and Kashmir. The various steps taken to restore order and improve security in recent years have thus begun to give fruits today.

This is evident from the aftermath of the gunfight that happened yesterday.

What happened

  • Pakistan for the first time took back the body of a slain militant, thus officially accepting that it had links with terrorism.
  • The slain terrorist was identified as Tabarak Hussain, who was a resident of Sabzkot village, PoK.
  • He attempted to launch a fidayeen attack on an Army frontier post in Rajouri, South Kashmir.
  • His body was handed over to the Pakistani forces at the Chakkan-Da-Bagh frontier crossing in Poonch, Kashmir.
  • He was found with 30,000 Pakistani rupees along with a certain link to a colonel in the Pakistan Army, Younus Chaudhary.
  • Husain along with his brother was arrested even earlier by the Indian army in 2016 for illegally infiltrating and waging war against India in Kashmir.

What followed later

  • The factions of Jaish-e-Muhhamad and Lashkar-e-Toiba waged a bloody fight among themselves, killing the brother of Ashiq Nangroo, one of the dreaded terrorists of the valley.
  • Manzoor Ahmed Nangroo himself was working as one of the ‘commanders’ of the JeM and is responsible for raising cadre & running operations in South Kashmir.
  • The dispute between the terror groups could be a result of the overall crackdown on the finances of the insurgency in recent years.
  • Indian Army has taken various measures to improve trust between the local populace and the forces as a means to nip radicalization in the bud.
  • Around 6 terrorists of JeM were killed in search operations in the month of August.
  • A total of 130 terrorists were killed this year so far, with 32 of them Pakistani Nationals, as per Official sources.
  • The recent spate of legislation after the abrogation of Article 370 has directly attacked the infrastructure of terrorism in the valley.
  • This includes the prominent terror sympathizers, fundraisers, overground workers along with of course the Jehadi terrorists.
  • Terrorists, on the other hand, have changed their strategy and now attacking civilians and public offices directly.
  • Kashmiri Pandits, non-local Indians, politically affiliated individuals, and prominent voices are now on their radar.

Conclusion

All of this points out the obvious change in the entire scenario. The house of cards which was on display for close to three decades has now come under relentless attacks in recent years. The crumbling house of cards has made the stakeholders in the vicious cycle of violence more desperate and impatient.

It is imperative for the nation to understand the game at play and stay vigilant along with the State.
