A video is making rounds on social media of a PFI protest in which sounds of the ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan could be heard in the background. The viral video has generated strong reactions, particularly from the Maharashtra BJP leaders.

While we cannot guarantee the authenticity of the video but we have tried to analyse its origin and the individuals involved.

Pakistan and PFI connection

The Popular Front of India (PFI) organised a protest against the pan-India raids on the organisation and detention of several of its activists.

The slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ could be heard as the police were seen arresting several of protestors.

When the police were enquired about the incident they responded, “We are investigating the matter”.

The local police have however also registered a case against the protestors for not taking permission for the protest.

This is not the first instance of inappropriate slogans being raised at a PFI protest or rally. On May, this year, a viral video of a PFI rally had shown a boy chanting provocative slogans against Hindus and Christians.

Raids Against PFI

On past Thursday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids against the extremist Islamic organisation Popular Front of India (PFI).

The raids were conducted in Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, UP and several other states. According to reports, more than 100 of its functionaries and activists have been detained by the police.

Allegations against PFI

PFI has always officially maintained that it has been involved in the cause of Muslim social issues and the upliftment of Dalits and Tribals.

Over the years, PFI has been charged with several allegations such as links to Islamic Terror groups, illegal possession of arms, unprovoked violence, kidnapping, murder, rioting and even involvement in Love Jihad.

In 2003, some PFI members were arrested for rioting and murdering eight Hindus in Marad massacre in Kerala’s Kozhikode. In 2010, Professor T.J. Joseph’s hand was chopped off by PFI activists over alleged case of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

Several political factions in Kerala have alleged that PFI has been unleashing unprovoked violence against their local cadres.

The extremist organisation was also charged with spearheading conversions of non-muslims in Kerala through Love-Jihad and other propaganda.

In 2017, a sting video emerged of Zainaba AS, President of National Women’s Front — the PFI’s women’s wing. In the sting, she admitted on camera that NWF was carrying out mass conversions via Satya Sarini, a sub-faction of PFI.

The latest trouble in the form of a viral video can work as a catalyst in the downfall of the controversial and not so ‘popular’ organisation.
