She only counts suicides by unemployed men and not the women

Priyanka Vadra has done a serious mistake by not adding the women & transgender victims to the total number of suicides, showing that she only wanted to politicize the issue, rather than address it.

Priyanka Vadra, who has been politicising women’s issues in the country for a long time, tweeted a half-baked number about the unemployed victims of suicides.

In a tweet done on September 2, she wrote that 11,724 people committed suicide due to lack of employment in 2021 under the rule of the BJP at the centre. This number is 26% more than the year 2020 and the youth are a frustrated lot due to unemployment. But the government has no answers to this problem.

Vadra, quoting NCRB data released on August 28 claimed this, however, it shows a serious lack of research about the facts & numbers on the part of Congress leader.

Why is she wrong?

Actually, the number is a little bit higher than Mrs Vadra tweeted. She tweeted that 11,724 people committed suicide in the year 2021 due to unemployment, this number is actually for only the male victims whereas the total number of victims including males, females and transgenders stands at 13,714.

Priyanka, who ran a campaign about women empowerment in the UP elections held recently, surprisingly forgot to add the women suicide victims in her tweet and even more shockingly, transgenders, a marginalised in the society were also left.

This serious flaw in the number in her tweet shows her irresponsible attitude towards such sensitive issues in the country.

What the data says?

‘Accidental and Suicidal Deaths in India 2021’ report by NCRB reveals that a total of 1,64,033 people committed suicide during the year 2021. This report has been published with various interesting or rather sad findings like classifying the victims on the basis of their profession, economic status or educational qualification & others.

A section of the report tells about the suicides by unemployed persons in India in the year 2021. According to the report, a total of 13,714 people who gave up their lives were unemployed.

Out of this 13,714, 11,724 were males and 1,981 were females who committed suicide due to unemployment, whereas 9 transgenders also gave up their lives were unemployed.

Mrs Vadra’s tweet rather puts a question mark on Congress

As she tweeted half-baked data about the suicides, she also forgot to mention that Maha Vikas Aghadi which very recently ruled Maharashtra reported maximum suicides of unemployed people.

Maharashtra reported 1,734 cases of suicides that included 1,576 men and 157 women. A lone Transgender also fell victim to suicide.

Another state to top the list was Tamil Nadu, governed by the Congress- DMK alliance. Tamil Nadu reported the second highest cases of suicides by unemployed persons numbering 1,657. Out of this number 1,345 were men & 307 women. 5 Transgenders also gave up their lives.

So, this question & tweet game over the sad suicides by unemployed persons rather puts a question mark on Congress as the top two states who reported most suicides are Congress-ruled.

Priyanka Vadra seems to have done a serious mistake by not adding the women & transgender victims to the number of suicides, showing that she only wanted to politicize the issue, rather than address it.

And she is wrong again on the issue of employemnt as a recent report published by Employee Provident Fund Organisation recently says that more than 55.5 million people got employed in organised sector during the 2017-22.
